The gaps get smaller
RBC Dexia Investor Services has again been voted the best global custodian in the overall unweighted results of this leading survey. In a surprisng turn of fortune, Investors Bank & Trust (last year's winner in the overall weighted ranking - and number two by unweighted) fell to 10th position in both rankings. State Street, which has just bought Investors Bank & Trust, climbs from 10th to 1st in the weighted results.
INTRODUCTION
The 20th annual Global Investor global custody survey measures customer satisfaction among the institutional fund management, mutual fund management, insurance and pension fund world.

RESULTS
RBC Dexia Investor Services has achieved consistently strong performance, having finished first in the unweighted rankings for the fourth year running.
Pictet & Cie is perhaps the one to watch. Hot on the heels of RBC Dexia, Pictet has climbed from 6th in 2005, to 4th last year to 2nd this year.
Mellon has put in a strong performance, with top 3 positions in both unweighted and weighted tables. Mellon has also retained top position in the footprint tables. Introduced last year, the footprint score is calculated as the number of responses multiplied by the unweighted score.
Brown Brothers Harriman was ranked number one by North American Institutional Fund Managers, unweighted scores (one of the many rankings available with the full survey results). The firm managed a year-on-year increase in its overall unweighted score but, with scores generally up on last year, it experienced a disappointing slip from 3rd to 5th position.
