Nov 12, 2008 Newton Enhances SRI and Corporate Governance Capability
Newton Investment Management Limited is stepping up its Socially Responsible Investment and Corporate Governance capability, with the appointment of two highly-experienced investment research analysts.

Reporting to Campbell Watterson, Leader Investment Process, Amanda Young will be responsible for assisting Newton in researching and engaging with companies on SRI issues in her capacity as SRI Officer. Laura Aarnio will work closely with Amanda and will also be actively involved in corporate governance issues.

These two senior appointments bring a wealth of SRI and corporate governance experience to Newton:

Amanda Young has worked in the City for over 10 years. Having started her research career at Rabobank International in 1998, Mrs Young then spent over seven years at CCLA Investment Management overseeing a number of roles as a Senior Socially Responsible Investment Analyst. These included providing company and sector analysis and research on environment, social and governance issues; managing positive and negative SRI criteria for specialist church and charity clients; thematic research; integration of SRI issues into main stream investment management process; and the development of Responsible Investment policy for CCLA's charity clients.

Laura Aarnio joins from PIRC London where, for the last three years, she has been actively working as a corporate governance and SRI analyst with responsibility for providing voting advice and contributing to the development of PIRC's voting policy and guidelines. More recently, Laura Aarnio was actively involved with delivering consultancy and engagement services on a wide range of environmental, social and governance issues to institutional investors.

Campbell Watterson comments: "We are delighted that Laura and Amanda have agreed to join our team. At Newton we take our SRI and Corporate Governance responsibilities very seriously and are committed to delivering the highest industry standards to our clients. The wealth and breadth of experience that both Laura and Amanda bring to the company will be invaluable as we focus on maintaining these standards."
