SWIFT cancels Sibos
April 15, 2020

SWIFT has published an update on its handling of coronavirus, the most eye-catching element of which is that it has cancelled this year's Sibos annual event, which was to have taken place in Boston in October.

The statement reads as follows.

"The Covid-19 pandemic continues to escalate around the world, impacting millions. SWIFT, like financial institutions, has put in place strong measures to protect the health and wellbeing of its employees and community while ensuring very robust business and operational continuity plans.

"All of our systems and services function as normal and are coping well with heightened activity, as FIN message volumes have increased approximately 17 percent year to date.

The majority of our staff are now working from home, except those in critical roles that require onsite access. All of our locations are closed to visitors and we continue to prohibit staff travel.

"We have cancelled or postponed in-person community events through August. And, after much consultation with customers, exhibitors and other stakeholders, have taken a decision to cancel the Sibos physical event scheduled to take place in Boston from 5-8 October 2020. "We are exploring options to launch some world-class industry thought leadership content digitally that week and beyond, and will update www.sibos.com as these plans take shape.

SWIFT's actions continue to evolve based on the local situation and the advice of international and national authorities.

πWe have strong business continuity plans in place for all of our critical services with the ability to continue 24/7 operations in a crisis situation. We are ready to activate these plans if necessary."
