Refinitiv: UK start-up funding hits record high in 2019
February 25, 2020

UK companies raised a record amount of venture capital in 2019 – the highest in Europe – according to specialist data providerRefinitiv.

£8.1 billion was raised – an 85 percent increase year on year – while deal volumes were also slightly up with 560 in this period compared to 554 in 2018.

The total raised was nearly double that of French companies (£4.1 billion) – the next most active European nation.

Rounding off the top three, German companies saw 181 rounds valued at £2.7 billion, which equates to volumes being down 10 percent, and values up by 38 percent.

London-based companies accounted for six of the top 10 VC deals in Europe, including the top deal, the £914 million funding round into OneWebfollowed by Deliveroo's £428 million investment in second place.
