HSBC appointed global custodian by Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance
September 28, 2020

HSBC has been appointed as global custodian by Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance (SFMI), the leading non-life insurance company in Korea, for part of its investment portfolio in the United States, Europe, Japan and China.

HSBC adds that it has successfully completed an asset transition of a sizeable portion of SFMI's fixed income portfolios in the United States, Europe and Japan early this month. This comes after the bank's onboarding of SFMI's initial investment directly in the China market through its RQFII license in May.

SFMI is part of the Samsung Group's financial arm and provides variety of non-life insurance products and total risk solution services, including private pension to personal customers and commercial clients in domestic and overseas markets. Founded in 1952, SFMI is listed on the Korea Exchange with 71 trillion Korean Won of asset under management.
