Central Depository Systems (Pvt) Limited (CDS) provides central registration, clearing and settlement services for equities, corporate bonds and government securities. All securities traded on the Colombo Stock Exchange must be lodged with CDS (although use of the CDS is not mandatory for other securities). Securities are held by CDS in book entry form. Equities settle on a T+3 cycle. Bonds settle on a delivery versus payment (DVP) basis on a settlement date agreed upon by the parties. LankaSecure, established by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), manages a Scripless Securities Settlement System and Central Depository System for Treasury bills, government bonds and central bank securities. Settlement can range from T to T+10 on a real-time gross settlement (RTGS) system.
