Custodian: A bank, financial institution or other entity appointed by an institutional investor, fund manager, bank or other party and responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date registration details of the beneficial owners of securities within the remit of the custodial contract. The custodian is also responsible for trade settlement, the collection of dividends or interest, the processing of corporate actions and other asset servicing activities. The custodian's remit may extend to further activities, such as a securities lending programme and fund administration services.
